What is a Invoice scam?
A fake or altered invoice that tricks you into paying the wrong bank account.
Invoice scams come as new bank details from a supplier, a duplicate of a real invoice with changed details, or an invoice for a service you never ordered (directory listings, domain renewals, trademark registrations).
Payment-redirection fraud is the single most costly scam for Australian businesses.
What to do
- Confirm every change of bank details by phone on a number you already had.
- Match invoices to purchase orders or a known supplier list.
- Pay domain renewals only through your registrar.
